Matthew is a Chartered Accountant with a detailed understanding and appreciation of film and TV production. As well as being an experienced accountant, Matthew also holds qualifications from Metro Screen in Film/Video Production and a Master’s in Film and TV Production from AFTRS.

With a background in both big accounting firms and film, Matthew is well-versed in what goes into the production of a major project. With his assistance, overwhelming issues such as tax legislation are tended to with ease. Matthew’s presence provides peace of mind, ensuring proper tax compliance and maximum tax rebates.

Matthew can also assist with the preparation of the Provisional and Final Producer Offset, along with grant applications, tax advice, production budgeting and creative project management.

Ian Browning is a Chartered Accountant with over 20 years’ experience in accounting and corporate finance, both within Australia and internationally.

Alongside his Business qualification he also has a Bachelor of Animation (Character Animation & Screenwriting) from Griffith University and has studied Screen Business & Producing at AFTRS.

Working primarily in the Arts, Media, and Entertainment sectors, his experience ranges from business advisory, income tax and GST compliance through to corporate financial management and production accounting. Following on from this, he has a thorough understanding of the concessions available to individuals and businesses with the sector, including special professional income averaging and the producer offset.

Ian’s focus is providing clear, reliable and accurate advice to help clients get their head around business challenges inherent within the creative industries, and working with them to obtain the best possible financial outcomes.

Abigail Fergusson

Chartered Accountant, B.Mgt (Leisure), MPA

Abigail Fergusson has over 10 years’ experience in audit, reporting and analysis. Abigail trained at a big four accounting firm, and has worked as a Chartered Accountant in both Australia and the UK.

Prior to training as an accountant, Abigail studied leisure management and worked in a number of roles within the arts and entertainment industries. Looking to refocus her accounting career towards those industries, Abigail recently completed a course in Production Accounting through AFTRS and joined the ATLA team.

In her spare time, Abigail can be found in her millinery studio making headpieces and kids hats or trying to keep up with her two small children.

Lyn Jones

Lyn Jones

Production Accountant

Lyn has spent many years as a Production Accountant, developing a complete understanding of the processes and requirements that assist producers with the financial side of their production.

Lyn’s experiences range across feature films, TV series, theatre productions, music festivals and tours. With over 35 credits, both nationally and internationally, Lyn is well versed in the importance of accurate, timely management reporting.

At a corporate level, Lyn has held roles as Company Accountant for a radio station, TV broadcaster, advertising agency, model agency, events company, live venue and an international rock band.

When not crunching numbers, Lyn can be found either in the kitchen whipping up a treat, or at her local, supporting the live music scene.

MahVeen Shahraki

Production Accountant

Coming from producing background has given MahVeen a clear understanding of the day-to-day production routine and challenges.

MahVeen has worked on the accounting side of production for feature films, web series, looking after ongoing accounting tasks for production companies and production accounting at Warner Brothers.

MahVeen loves working with people and when not behind the numbers or on set, you can normally find her planning a camping trip or playing D&D.

As Client Relations Manager, Jillian is your go-to point of contact at Above The Line Accounting. Her role is to create and nurture long-term relationships with clients and endeavour to ensure that your needs are always met, so please feel free to reach out to her at any time!

With over 20 years’ experience in customer service within the jewellery industry and membership associations, Jillian understands the needs of creative small business owners and has a strong personal commitment to effective service delivery and client satisfaction.

Jillian has a Bachelor of Art Theory and a Diploma of Business. In her spare time, she can be found swimming laps of the pool, reading a good book or trying to tame her jungle of a garden.

Nicola Weddin

Marketing & Projects Manager

Nicola has extensive strategic marketing experience combined with a strong finance background. She has worked in multinational organisations in the healthcare sector, managing a global brand portfolio of over US$45 million. She has also worked in the education sector, not-for-profit space, and provided marketing consulting for small businesses.

Notably, Nicola project-managed the design and implementation of a state-wide business and financial consulting program for community preschools funded by the NSW Department of Education. She has also worked as a bookkeeper (a longer story, involving wrangling pre-schoolers!)

These days she enjoys using her strategic marketing skills to deliver excellence in the customer experience, growing and retaining Above the Line Accounting’s client base.

Nicola has a Master of Commerce (Marketing) and a Bachelor of Commerce (Marketing/Finance). She’s loves kayaking and working in community gardens!
